What is SEO?

SEO means search engine optimization.

The goal of SEO is to expand a company’s visibility in online organic search results.

It helps businesses rank higher in say Google searches & their SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages).

Higher rankings in search results drive more traffic to your website, increasing the chances for more conversions which leads to more customers and more revenue.

There are a ton of ways to improve the SEO of your site pages. Search engines look for elements including title tags, keywords, image tags, internal link structure.

Google and other search engines also look at site structure and design, visitor behavior, and other external, off-site factors to determine how highly ranked your site should be.

Taking all these factors into account, SEO basically drives two things — rankings and visibility.

How Does SEO Work?

Rankings:  are what search engines use to determine where to place a particular web page in the SERP (search engine results page).  

Visibility:  describes how prominent a particular domain is in the search engine results. With high visibility, your domain is higher in Google’s search result pages.  

There is one more reason why you should be using SEO.

The technique virtually helps you position your brand throughout the entire buying journey.

Statics show that 94% of internet searches happen in a google search.  So of course, you want to rank high on the first page of their search results pages. 

Research also showed that 77% of people research a brand before engaging with it.  So people not only search or information and products they also research you.

How does Google know how to rank a page?

Major search engines like Google have one single goal which is to provide users with the most relevant information and answers.

To deliver the right information to users, search engines analyze two factors:

  • The level of relevancy between the search engine queries or keyword searches and the content on a page.  Google and other search engines make assessments based on factors such as: topic or keywords.
  • The Page Authority, or your website’s popularity on the Internet. Google assumes that the more popular a page or resource is, the more valuable its content is.  So it would rank it higher.

Why is SEO important?

Everyone uses google search for information & products. 

Let’s say you want to learn more about “email open click rates”. 

You go to google and You type in “email open click rates” and immediately have pages of results. 

But how far down the list do YOU usually start reading? 

Generally, you start from the 1st result, sometimes you read the top few, but you wouldn’t go to page 10 to find the solution you searched for. 

Having on page SEO optimized for search engines helps your overall search ranking. 

Your goal should be to rank on the first page (and as close to number 1 as you can).   

So that you see increased traffic to your website.

How use SEO for a website!

1. Do keyword research and use relevant terms 

Keywords play an important role in SEO. 

Keywords are what people will type in when searching for something, ie “open click rates”. 

Shorter keywords usually have a higher search volume, more searches.

Long-tail-keywords have a lower search volume (so less searches), but are very specific.  

The advantage of longer keywords is you are able to target the exact audience interested in it.  

Play with both for best results and see what information you collect.

Keywords are crucial, but not the only factor to optimizing a website.   

Let’s look at some other strategic ways to optimize your website for SEO.

2. Place keywords throughout your page

Each page or blog post has different relevant keywords.  

Your chosen keywords should be in the following places on your website:

  • Title of the post or podcast
  • The URL
  • The first and last paragraph of the post
  • In the text organically throughout the post
  • The tags of all images used
  • Headings
  • Page titles
  • Content
  • Emails

3. Hyperlink your existing content

If you have similar posts or blogs, link them! 

It’s good practice to hyperlink your content to other posts and pages on your website.  

This creates a better user experience by helping the reader further discover related content and navigate on your site, as well as helping bots in indexing and contextualizing your webpages. 

Search Engines will like rank you higher since you offer a better customer experience.

4. Write high-quality content. No keyword stuffing! 

Creating great and fresh content will help you gain visibility.

When people perform search queries on Google for information about a product or service similar to yours, they’ll find social media posts, blogs, web pages, and other content that was designed to answer their questions.  

When put in the effort to have the most relevant, engaging, and authoritative content, people will find your brand before others.

Great content comes in many forms, try to implement a few of the following:

  • Infographics
  • Podcasts
  • Animations
  • Guest blogs

When you have a well-rounded SEO strategy in place and great content to drive it, then you’ll have customers knocking down your door.

However, don’t use keywords all over your article or blog trying to create a high keyword dense post or article.  

Search engines are really intelligent and can recognize keyword stuffing.

5 Optimize your images for SEO

Images are very important; they help your customer or client visualize and making it more understandable to readers.  

But they are also important for SEO, as they help your website to be crawled.

An image can’t be crawled by a search engine, however, the image descriptions can be.

Website speed is crucial to SEO and the image size and format can play a big role in load speed.  

So make sure to optimize your images correctly.

6. Page speed 

Page load speed is important for website ranking.   

People spend a few seconds on your homepage before choosing if they want to stay or move one to something else. 

7. Don’t forget your mobile devices version! 

So many people today are online with their mobile devices. 

It’s necessary to optimize your website for mobile devices.
